What is Tribe?

Tribe is a freelancer platform for creative professionals structured as a worker cooperative. We’ve come together to pool resources and provide services that bring stability and peace of mind to a lifestyle that’s often precarious and stressful. We’ve created a system that allows our members to get paid every two weeks, frees us from the hassle of running down late payments, and gives us access to employee-style benefits like health insurance and tax management. We also allow potential clients to view your profile and contact you for work.

What is a worker cooperative?

A worker cooperative is a business that is both owned and governed by the people who work there.

How does that work?

As a member of the cooperative, you’ll own a member share and gain access to all member services of Obran Cooperative (our parent cooperative). This gives you a voice and a vote in how both Tribeworks is run and the Cooperative as a whole. All worker-owners permanently own the conglomerate and in turn each company the cooperative owns. All worker-owners are eligible to run for a majority worker Board of directors (both at Tribeworks and at Obran). And all members are entitled to a share of the cooperative's profit!

So, I own it?

Yes! Along with everyone else in the Obran Cooperative. We’re all pulling forward together.

How much does it cost?

Every member has to purchase their membership share, which is a flat one time purchase of $250. This can be paid upfront, in installments, or by subtracting a few bucks from every check until it’s paid off. But, for less than the cost of a gym membership, you are permanently a co-owner of the company.

Why is Tribe better than freelancing?

Tribe gives the flexibility of freelancing with many of the benefits of a normal job.

As a freelancer, you are your own boss. But you’re also your own accountant, your own agent, your own marketing team, your own publicist, your own everything. At Tribe, we share the burden of running the business, allowing you to do the work you love without the stress of carrying the world on your shoulders.

As a member, you can say goodbye to your days of getting stiffed by clients. While you work, you get paid every two weeks like clockwork. And if you’re working full-time, you get healthcare benefits as well!

Are you a staffing agency?

No. While we are able to provide companies with those services, we are focused on providing quality services to make creatives lives easier.
